What they say about 2019
"The 2019 vintage is the best vintage I have ever tasted for German riesling in my four-decade career. My career as a wine critic began in the early 1980s. The first German vintage I tasted as young wines was 1983 and I can’t remember a vintage like that – until now. The 2019 wines, from dry to classic style with natural grape sweetness, are simply astonishing quality, which means 2019 is one of the greatest vintages of modern times and will be remembered for decades, possibly generations."

"An epic vintage at the top, thanks to not excessive oechsle degrees, bright and ripe flavours and impeccable sweetness-acidity balance." Mosel Fine Wines
"The 2019 vintage is clearly one of the greatest in recent memory across all of Germany."
John Gilman, A View From The Cellar
"2019 is the third excellent vintage in a row along the Mosel and, if you are generous enough, it’s even the fifth extraordinary vintage since the great yet still youthful 2015 and the delicate and charming 2016. There have been great wines produced in really every existing style from dry to noble sweet. Well, the kabinett wines are fuller and richer than we sometimes would wish for, but still irresistible. The spätlesen and auslesen are seductive, and the beerenauslesen and trockenbeerenauslesen are made to be aged for decades. In general, I tend to prefer the 2019s to the 2018s, although many 2018s have developed stunningly beautifully and brought not just impressive dry wines but some of the finest sweet wines I have tasted in many years." What they say about Willi Schaefer
"2019 is a great vintage for this tiny iconic producer. The sweet pradikats are hard to beat. They are absolutely brilliant and include some of the finest I have tasted here. The Domprobst Spätlese #10 and Auslese Domprobst #14 and Himmelreich are extraordinary. 2019 shows Willi Schaefer at its very best." Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate
"Christoph and Andrea Schaefer (pictured above with their boys Jonathan and Jakob) have crafted an amazing lineup of 2019s, with everything I tasted gorgeously pure, electric and bursting with some of the most beautiful fruit tones one will ever find in the world of wine. Everything is pure magic, and this was probably the most exciting full collection of 2019s that I tasted.
The basic, entry level wines were both very high in quality. The pair of shimmering, dancing kabinetten were flawless in their effortless and weightless beauty. I sampled five different spätlesen ... all were sensational. There are also five brilliant auslesen ... legends in the making. And the Domprobst Beerenauslese is the pinnacle of the collection and every bit as stunning as one would expect from the confluence of a legendary vintage and an estate at the absolute top of its game! Buy any bottling you can find as there is absolutely nothing in the portfolio that will not be a cellar treasure in times to come." John Gilman, A View From The Cellar
"In the eyes of many wine lovers, Weingut Willi Schaefer stands as one of the foundations of riesling. Christoph Schaefer explained their quest for quality: “We want our wines to be elegant, lively and animating. We do not have a set recipe in our vineyard management or winemaking. We may harvest earlier or later depending on the quality and maturity of each grape. In principle, we leave our wines in traditional fuder. But this may be for more or less time in function of the vintage. We just deal with nature every year in order to give our wines some inner harmony.” Mosel Fine Wines
