Wonderful floral, elegant Beaujolais with fresh delicate red cherry and raspberry fruits accompanied by just enough grip. Plain roast organic chicken, pork chops in a creamy sauce or dishes featuring roast butternut squash. JOHN WILSON, Irish Times
As I wrote last year, the 2018 Chénas Coup Double hails from granite and quartz soils in the lieu-dit Beaux Quarts, and its name pays tribute to the fact that both the Thillardon brothers became fathers to twins in this vintage! Much as it did just after bottling, the wine offers up aromas of cherries, red fruit compote, licorice and fennel seed, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered palate that's supple and enveloping, with succulent acids and lovely purity of fruit. 92pts WILLIAM KEELEY, Wine Advocate
I wrote last year that the Thillardon brothers continue to go from strength to strength, and revisiting their 2018 portfolio—to my palate, their most accomplished to date—only confirms that they are fast emerging as one of the most exciting producers in contemporary Beaujolais. Seemingly as fecund as their organically farmed vines, in addition to welcoming their largest harvest to date, in 2018 both brothers became fathers to twins. Paul-Henri describes the 2018 crop, which averaged 40 hectoliters per hectare, as challenging to vinify: sugars were sluggish to finish, so the Thillardons pressed sweet and then stirred the lees to complete fermentation, monitoring the process under the microscope. The domaine's 2018s are supple, satiny and expressive, bursting with fragrant fruit and underpinned by succulent acids. All these wines come warmly recommended once again.
